I hold an undergraduate degree in English and a graduate degree in Creative Writing, and I incorporate my love of reading and writing into my lessons. From me, you can expect plenty of constructive feedback and support. I adhere to the philosophy that you will learn best when told what you are doing well so that you can continue doing it, along with suggestions about how to make your writing even better. In addition to teaching literature, I have a background in technical writing, tutoring college students, and teaching creative writing at the college level. Many people tell me about themselves, "Oh, I don't like writing" or "Oh, I am not a good writer." On the contrary, I find that most students in my classes discover that they have great writing potential within themselves and I enjoy helping them develop it.

I have been teaching at Westwood since 2010. Prior to Westwood, I taught seventh grade, eighth grade and gifted English at Kino Junior High. I have spent my entire public teaching career at Mesa Public Schools and I look forward to another exciting year with all of you!

There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
    There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you one by one,
    The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle it in with a bit of a grin,
    Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
    That "couldn’t be done," and you’ll do it.
