Hello Warriors! My name is Darra Bray and I was born in a little town in Oregon. When I was 13 I moved with my family to Mesa to help assist my aging grandparents. I attended Stapley Jr High and then Westwood High School. During my years in high school I was inrolled in Technical Theatre under the direction of Patrick Walsh. Having been raised to work hard, I found the class to be a perfect fit in my life. I enjoyed building sets, learning the sound and lights, and yes, I even enjoyed cleaning and organizing the outside storage area.
The auditorium manager, at the time, was a woman I admired and looked up to. After I graduated I returned to pay her a visit and see if there was a way for me to continue helping her. She informed me that she had just decided to resign (due to the fact that she'd just found out she was pregenant) and had been trying to find someone to take over her position. She told me that if it was something I enjoyed she would make sure I was able to continue doing it. She helped me get a job as her assistant and trained me in what I would need to know and do to be a successful auditorium manager.
I graduated in 2002 and have been proudly doing what I love ever sense. I have worked along side many amazing principals, teachers and staff. I have built 32 sets for the drama productions including musicals and will continue to build MANY more. I love working beside the students and helping them as they gain a love for technical theatre. I currently get the pleasure to work beside a very talented man, Vinny Chavez, as together we teach Technical Theatre 1 and 2.
I am excited for what this year has in store.
