Biography

 

Jeana Whitaker is a 25-year veteran teacher recognized as a passionate, student-centered educator continually seeking professional growth.  Over the years, she has taught various English classes, Journalism, Drama, Technical Theatre, Video Production and Speech and Debate.  She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Columbus State University in 1991 and achieved her Master of Art’s Degree in 2001 from Prescott College.  As a British University Scholar in 2015, Ms. Whitaker studied Shakespeare Performance at the Globe Theatre in London.   She has been teaching at Westwood High School in Mesa Public Schools for four years and currently teaches three levels of drama courses and two levels of CTE Technical Theatre.  In addition, she sponsors the Thespian Troupe and was named Arizona Thespians Teacher of the Year for the Central Region in 2015.  In addition to teaching high school theatre and technical theatre programs, she has worked professionally in theatre, film and television, including work for HBO, Granada Films, ESPN, and Arizona Theatre Company.  Her first book of drama curriculum for teachers is being published by Smith and Kraus in the fall of 2018.
