It is a pleasure to join the Westwood High School community and Mesa Public Schools!  If you hear your student talking about some teacher wearing lots of different Hawaiian shirts called “Mr. D”  that will be me.

My professional training includes degrees in History and International Studies from Iowa State University.  I hold a Masters of International Management from the top-rated Thunderbird School of International Management.  I am currently working on a second master’s degree in teaching History and American Government.  I have previously taught in Phoenix Union High School District and Gilbert Public Schools with a total of sixteen years in the teaching profession.

I am a native Iowan, but have traveled to the far corners of the world in search of knowledge, adventure, and business opportunities.  Half of my professional career, more than sixteen years, has been spent as an international business manager, entrepreneur, and business owner.   I started my first business at age nine, a fishing bait enterprise that enabled me to pay for my university education and to satisfy my urge to travel our amazing nation.  In teaching International Baccalaureate Economics I will encourage my students to see the world from an economic perspective with the incredible opportunities as well as the risks.

The other half of my life has been spent teaching Business, Computer Technology, U.S. History, Government, Economics, and even Spanish.  Here at Westwood I currently teach American History, Principles of Economics, and IB Economics HL.  Economics students will be participating in the Stock Market Competition as part of their learning experience this year.

I firmly believe that every student can be successful and I strive every day to help them find their path in a very rigorous educational system.  I greatly value parent involvement and welcome your questions, comments, and suggestions.  Please feel free to contact me at any time by clicking the email link or call me at (480) 472-4553 I look forward to meeting and working with you and your families.  Now let’s roll up our sleeves and get ready to MOVE UP at Westwood High School!
