Mr. Gates has served as an Assistant Principal at Westwood since the 2003-2004 school year. One of his primary responsibilities is to assist and support the 9th grade students in the areas of academics, attendance and discipline in an effort to help each student obtain success at Westwood High School. He is also responsible for community outreach, academic services, student assessment, data analysis and the implementation of the S3 Safe and Supportive schools Federal Grant.
This is the 15th year that Mr. Gates has served in the education profession. He graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 1998 with a degree is Secondary Social Sciences. From 1998 to 2003 Mr. Gates taught Social Studies while coaching a variety of sports including volleyball, basketball and track. He obtained his Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University in the spring of 2003, and took his current position at Westwood High School in the summer of 2003. He is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Northern Arizona University.
Mr. Gates was born and raised in the mountains of Colorado. He has lived in Arizona since 1999 and enjoys wakeboarding, snowboarding, golfing, reading and traveling with his wife Sarah, and two children Hailey and Preston.
