Biography

Mr. Sword has been teaching at Westwood for 22 years.  He teaches Boy's Physical Education.  During this time, he has been a football, track and strength coach.  In 2000, he coached the Varsity Offensive & Defensive Line for Westwood's State Runner-Up 5A Championship Football Team.

Prior to Westwood, Mr. Sword taught and coached 1 year at Bradshaw Mountain High School and 6 years at Saguaro High School.  At Saguaro, he was the Varsity Defensive Coordinator for 3 years and the Varsity Head Football Coach for 3 years.  In 1995, Mr. Sword coached Saguaro High School to its first 4A State Football Championships.

Before coming to Arizona, Mr. Sword taught and coached for 5 years at Miramar High School and Dillard High School in Florida.  He was the Varsity Offensive Line Coach and the Junior Varsity Defensive Coordinator.  Prior to Florida,  Mr. Sword was the Head Physical Director for 3 years at the Massillon YMCA/YWCA in Ohio. 

In Massillon, Mr. Sword was a Varsity Assistant Football Coach for the Washington High School - Massillon Tigers Football Program.  Before going to Massillon, He was the Physical Director for 3 years at the Columbus Downtown YMCA and an Assistant Physical Director for 3 years at the Hilltop YMCA.

Mr. Sword earned his Associated Degree in Physical Education from Shawnee State Community College.  He earned his Bachelors Degree in Physical Education from The Ohio State University.  Mr. Sword earned a Masters Degree in Educational Supervision from the University of Phoenix and has 60+ graduate hours beyond his Masters Degree.

Mr. Sword was a competitive "drug-free" powerlifter for over 40 years.  He has won multiple National Championships and the Masters World Cup in 2003.  In 2011, he was elected to the Powerlifting Hall of Fame.  When Mr. Sword turned 60, he broke the American Squat, Bench, and Deadlift Records and still holds a World Record Deadlift from 2003.

Mr. Sword is married to his wife Ginny Lynn.  He has 3 children and has 7 grandchildren.  He has 3 dogs and 2 cats.  In his spare time, when he is not lifting weights, he enjoys running, walking his dogs, and spending time with his grandchildren.  Mr. Sword is also involved in Men Coaching Men a Christian Men's Program at his church.
