Biography

Welcome to our Whitman website and to my biography page.  I have have proudly worked as the principal of Whitman Elementary School since 2001.  My background includes working in several Mesa schools and Scottsdale schools which brings a wide variety of experiences to my position as principal. Previous positions include serving as the principal of Pueblo Elementary in Scottsdale for two years.  Prior to that, I served as assistant principal of Hohokam Elementary School, a K-6 school in the Scottsdale School District and administrative intern at Salk and Jefferson In Mesa. Teaching highlights include past experiences at teaching fifth, sixth, first and second grades, teaching phycical education and coaching a variety of youth sports.

My belief systems have been formed around the idea that when working together, the stakeholders of a school can create a profound, meaningful experience for every child. Every student who attends Whitman Elementary School will feel the personal connections needed to thrive in a world that can sometimes be very impersonal. My husband Ken is also a principal in Mesa Public Schools and we have two boys who who are in high school and college.

I grew up in Anoka, Minnesota . After high school I attended the University of Minnesota, with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Education and then earned my Masters Degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Phoenix. I also hold endorsements in English as a Second Language and Adult Education.

As principal at Whitman I anxiously look forward to each school year where working with students and staff to create opportunities, which challenge students to reach their highest potential remains the highest priority.
