Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,
Welcome to Whittier Elementary School. Our school opened in 1961 and continues to serve the educational needs of the students and families in our part of west Mesa. Whittier is a Tribes Learning Community School, which means we believe in building strong classroom and school communities to impact the greater community surrounding our elementary school. Whittier is also a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) school, a school where the teaching, recognizing, and rewarding of positive behaviors occurs every day of the school year. The most successful school year academically and behaviorally is the goal that we continue to hold each year for each of Whittier’s students.
By applying scientific based educational research to classroom instruction in all subject areas; by providing our students with best instructional practice directed at student mastery of state curriculum standards; and through encouraging and supporting appropriate involvement of parents in the educational support of their children, we know that we are making the biggest difference for our students.
With parents and school staff working together, Whittier is providing the best overall learning environment for all students. Parents, please contact our office staff, your child’s classroom teacher, and our PTO to explore ways in which you can become more involved in your children’s education.
