Whittier School Awarded A+ in Excellence

Whittier Elementary was awarded the A+ School of Excellence Award in May, 2012 by the The Arizona Educational Foundation, (AEF)  AEF's A+ School of Excellence Award is awarded to a school based on a comprehensive review of many criteria of the school.

Whittier submitted an application that provided demographic information, a description of current programs and practices, documentation of parent and community involvement, a profile of the school’s leadership and commitment to excellence, equity, and service. Schools must demonstrate sustained high achievement or significant improvement through assessment data. Winning schools are recognized for their superior ability to identify and meet the academic and non-academic needs of their student population. Schools that earn the AEF's A+ School of Excellence designation retain their status for a 3-year period after which time they must reapply for the award.

The AEF selection panel included award-winning school principals, teachers and community leaders. Panel members conduct two-day site visits to selected schools throughout the state in order to choose the A+ School of Excellence award winners. In March, a visit was made by three panel members.  During their site observation they interviewed staff, students, and parents.  After reviewing the application and the data collected from the site visit, Whittier was awarded the A+ School of Excellence Award. There is a short video clip that follows which gives some insight into the depth of the importnace of this award.
