The fifth grade team is committed to the educational growth of each student. We believe that every child can succeed. One way we help fifth grade students to be organized is through the use of a Student Planner. As a parent, you should be seeing this calendar each night. This will allow you to know what is going on each day and what is for homework. Students also have a weekly Activity Card that notes any missing homework or poor choices that are made. If a student gets a "mark" or an "infraction" on his/her activity card, they are given a Study Hall slip. Study Hall is run Tuesday -Friday during the students recess times. Activity Cards are totaled at the end of the week and sent home to be signed and returned on Monday. Failure to return the signed activity card on time results as an infraction on the new weeks card. An Activity Card party is held once every quarter. Students that received 5 or fewer marks are invited to this fun event. The students that didn't qualify are placed in a study hall room for the duration of the party.

Excel Math is being used to supplement the math curriculum. This program has been very effective in helping students to retain math skills. We also set individual Accelerated Reader goals for each quarter. Students need to be reading in their ZPD range and passing test with at least an 85% accuracy.

Fifth grade is an exciting and challenging year. We look forward to working with you and your student.
