"Reading should not be presented to children as a chore, a duty.  It should be offered as a gift."

--Kate DiCamillo, Children's Author

I am currently the K-6 Reading Interventionist at Wilson Elementary School.  I am fortunate to work with two Instructional Assistants, Becky Elam and Barb Michael, both certified teachers.  We work in the Reading Lab where we service students needing extra support toward developing their "gift" of reading.  I analyze reading data and work closely with the classroom teachers to determine the specific needs of the students.

I received my B.S. in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University in 1983 and started teaching in Mesa Public Schools in Fall 1984.  Throughout my teaching career, I taught all grade levels Early Kindergarten through fourth grades, with the majority of my years in first and second grades.  Since retiring from classroom teaching I have continued to teach as a Reading Interventionist. In addition to my degree I also have a Reading Endorsement and an Early Childhood Endorsement.

On a personal note, I have been married to my wonderful husband, John, for 29 years. We have a 27 year old son, Jonathan, a 21 year old daughter, Janae, and two four-legged children (our Boston Terrier, Chauncey and our Maltipoo, Mandi) who all are the best part of my life.

I look forward to another year of assisting in developing stronger readers!
