Designing Wind Sails in Fifth Grade

As the students of Mr. Cook's fifth grade class experience the Age of Exploration, they learn what it is to be an explorer. Part of their inquiry requires them to create a boat that will carry a large amount of cargo and move swiftly through the water. In addition, they must design and construct a sail that will catch the most wind to push the boat. The pictures above are of the final task in the explorer's design where they have to engineer a light-weight material that will catch the most wind.

     The largest competitive student art show in Arizona is held annually at the  AZ State Fair.  This  year, 16 former and current Zaharis students will have their work judged by professional artists. Conferences

Hello Zaharis Families!  It's time to sign up for parent/teacher conferences. Letters will be sent home today with a return date of Wednesday October 4th.  Please send a form back to each of your children's teachers so we can coordinate everyone's schedules. Conference week will be October 16-19.
