Designing Wind Sails in Fifth Grade
As the students of Mr. Cook's fifth grade class experience the Age of Exploration, they learn what it is to be an explorer. Part of their inquiry requires them to create a boat that will carry a large amount of cargo and move swiftly through the water. In addition, they must design and construct a sail that will catch the most wind to push the boat. The pictures above are of the final task in the explorer's design where they have to engineer a light-weight material that will catch the most wind.
