K-1 Classes Create a Functioning Whingdingdilly
The K-1 community completed a unit on habitats around the world including plants, weather patterns, and animals. Students worked collaboratively to design a creature that can survive in their chosen habitat. They had to justify its survival by animating the creature's defense or special ability with circuits. STEAM teacher and engineering expert, Mrs. Kohn, joined forces with Mrs. Reichert and Ms. Mercer to complete this project inspired by the book, The Whingdingdilly, by Bill Peet. Mrs. Kohn helped students learn three components of a circuit: source, conductor, and load. In addition, she helped each collaboration team incorporate circuits as part of their design.
