Mrs. Jen Kunz
Welcome to another wonderful year at Zaharis Elementary School! I am so excited to begin my 18th year of teaching. Zaharis is the greatest place to learn and grow and provides numerous opportunities for students to take part in their own learning. It is a place that understands the importance of providing students with “just right books," allows them to draw from personal experiences to craft their writing, and creates opportunity for dialogue as they look for strategies that will support their understanding of math, science, social studies and real world concepts.
As for my personal beliefs, I believe that students learn best in the company of others; where the teacher and students work alongside each other. I also believe that this collaboration gives children comfort and ease when selecting real books, participating in classroom activities and discussions, and developing classroom community. They learn to encourage each other and engage in critical thinking together. This not only impacts their own discovery and allows them to put their own strengths into practice, it also makes their learning purposeful and they begin to take pride in what they are doing and will strive to become the best. Not only do I believe this to be such an important way of learning as a teacher, but also as a mom of current Zaharis Soaring Eagles.
I am a firm believer in education and the importance of its continuous growth in my life. In 2001, I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Arizona University, and then completed a Masters in Administration and Supervision from Arizona State University in 2009. I then furthered my education by completing my classroom certification in 2011.
Away from school I enjoy spending time with my family. We have three wonderful children. Morgan is 15, and will be a sophmore in high school. Landon is 12, and ready to tackle junior high. Preston is 9, and will be a 4th grader. We love the outdoors and spend most of our time camping and fishing. I also enjoy running, biking and swimming.
I am thrilled to be working alongside your children, and look forward to our journey as we build a classroom community, uncover curriculum and discover the strengths of our learning.
