Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year!
My journey in Mesa, Arizona began when we moved from Pennsylvania when I was 5 years old. I began Kindergarten in the Mesa District in 1978 when I started at Keller Elementary. I remained there until I was in sixth grade when we moved to Chandler. The neighborhood I lived in was still in the Mesa school boundaries so I began junior high at Hendrix. I finished my first journey with Mesa Public Schools when I graduated from Dobson High School.
After high school, I played softball for Phoenix College for two years before I transferred to the beautiful Northern Arizona campus to complete my degree. I chose the education field because I knew it would be rewarding to make the difference in the lives of children. I graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary/Special Education with an emphasis in Learning Disabilities. I have also received a Master's Degree in Special Education and an endorsement in the area of English as a Second Language.
My journey has come full circle and I have returned to Mesa Public Schools where I have spent the last 20 years teaching. I have taught grades K,1,2,5 and 6 in the general education setting where I was at Jefferson Elementary for 18 years. I knew I needed something new and made the decision to finally use my Special Education degree and also move to the junior high where I was the SLD Inclusion teacher for 8th graders at Taylor. I absolutely loved it but decided that the community in an elementary school was something I needed back in my life. Zaharis was the perfect choice to make that happen. I am so excited to have one of my daughters join me here as she will be a 5th grader.
I believe every child is unique and they have the ability to grow and learn. My job is to use my expertise to open their minds to new ideas and concepts. My classroom is a safe place where your child's feelings and thoughts will be respected by others. This environment will help them feel comfortable to take risks as we continue to learn and grow together.
Thank you for allowing me to get to know your children and build a relationship that I will never forget.
