Carnival week:)

Dear families,

The Thanksgiving feast seemed to be a success. It was fun seeing so many parents able to come out and join their child for lunch. Our next Zaharis event is the Turkey Trot. Our K1 community will be running on Wednesday November 22nd from 12:45 to 1:15. That is until dismissal time because it is Wednesday which is early release day. It is always a fun run!

Every child is receiving addition flash cards this week in their backpacks. These are strategy math facts. You will notice in the corner of every flash card there is a hint as to what math fact your child should use to solve the problem most efficiently. Fluency is not about completing 100 problems in 2 minutes because of memorization but instead knowing strategies to solve problems and using it well. I hope you will find time every week or possibly even more often to practice these strategies for fluent solving.

I also am requesting every child to collect 2-4 leaves from (hopefully) your yard or your neighbors. It is for an art project. Please have your child bring it in asap!

We are in the process of preparing our second field trip for our K1 community. This time we will be journeying to the IDEA Museum in Mesa. They currently have a health and human body exhibit open as well as their continued S. T. E. M. /art engagements. We will be asking for 5 parent chaperones to join us on the bus. You may not bring any other children with you if you are selected to be a chaperone. If you are not selected to chaperone you may join us at the Museum where you will have to pay your own admission in but can then join your child's group. If you had the opportunity to chaperone at the Phoenix Zoo you may still chaperone this event if space is available. Please mark the box if interested in chaperoning and specify whether you will pack your child a sack lunch or you would like the school to prepare a lunch for them.

THIS FRIDAY IS OUR ANNUAL ZAHARIS CARNIVAL. PRESALES ARE STILL GOING ON SO GET YOUR WRIST BANDS EARLY FOR A DISCOUNTED PRICE. ALSO PTO IS STILL COLLECTING SUPPLIES. ESTMATION JARS (NO CHOCOLATE PLEASE) LABELED ON THE BOTTOM, 2-LITER SODA POPS, AND CAKES OF ALL KINDS! I WILL BE AT THE CARNIVAL WITH MY GIRLS AND PLAN TO WORK A GAME AND DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY. I HOPE I SEE MOST OF MY FAMILIES THERE!

Our next K1 celebration is on November 29th from 12 to 1. It will look different than our past celebrations. We plan to take on a workshop approach where we hope every child has someone able to attend with them.  Moms and/or dads are wonderful but if you can't make it remember grandmas and grandpas or aunts and uncles are always welcome to step in for you. Finally because this is "Growing Hearts, Growing Minds Workshop" we ask that for this event no siblings join. It will take place in your child's classroom. No food for this event. You are welcome to take your child at the end.

Please continue enjoying the Topic bags and for everyone doing traditional homework taking the responsibility of mastering the math games and preparing for the spelling test. So much growth has already happened for so many of your little ones. We couldn't be more proud.

There will be NO SCHOOL for Thanksgiving break from November 23rd-24th.

DIBELS testing is coming soon! NOVEMBER 27-DECEMBER 8! We talked at conferences about those tests, and remember that new tests are being added for your child. We will spend a little bit of time prepping for the idea of 1 minute time frame and the concepts of the test just to not overwhelm the kids. You will see scores after we are finished testing.

NEW SCHOLASTIC ORDERS ARE AVAILABLE.
