Second Grade Homework
Our goal is to help your son or daughter to grow as a life long learner. Homework is an opportunity to help your child develop good study habits, especially as a reader. It is not busywork meant to keep students occupied. Our homework is predictable and essential for success in promoting responsibility and learning. It is authentic learning related to the concepts taught in school that day. It is a partnership from school to home to keep communication open. We appreciate your help and support at home.
Your child receives his/her homework in a daily folder with all information/directions included. Please look for this folder starting on August 11th. We are asking to have students return folders and homework daily. Daily homework will always include 15 minutes of reading a book of their choice. Students may bring home a book from school or read something at home. They may read orally to you or silently--you may even read to them. Hopefully this will be a treasured time for you and your child. Please sign or initial their homework reading log each evening. Each Monday your child will come home with a new poem. Please listen as they read the poem and work on fluency and expression. The poem is NOT to be memorized but enjoyed. Homework will also include a daily math assignment which will enrich their math lesson earlier in the day along with writing the weekly spelling words one time in their spelling notebook. Homework will only be required Monday through Thursday. Enjoy your family time on the weekends along with a good book.
