Welcome to 4th Grade!

4th grade rocks

Are you ready for an exciting year? Here is a sneak peak of what to expect:

  • Books, books, and more books! We will be reading a LOT this year--thrilling read-alouds, insightful literature studies, thoughtful book clubs, and fascinating "just-right" books.

  • Living the life of writers. It's a good thing we'll be reading so much because, in the words of Constance Weaver, "for every minute we spend reading, we spend a minute learning about writing and spelling." We will write every day, studying and practicing many different genres and writing strategies.

  • Becoming mathematicians through investigating numbers and mathematical concepts. 4th grade is when students get to conduct an in-depth study on multiplication and division, fractions and decimals, along with many, many more concepts. We will use what we learn in math to track down "The Lost Tribe of the Tocowans" at the end of the year!

  • Exploring the world as scientists, studying fascinating scientific topics including variables, plants & animals, weather, the water cycle, and electricity & magnetism!
  • Learning all about Arizona and its people, including researching and building a float to teach all about one of Arizona's 15 fabulous counties for our annual Arizona County Float Parade!
  • The BEST field trips are in 4th grade, from Native American ruins in downtown Mesa, to the Superstition Mountains, and all the way to Montezuma castle and Grand Canyon!

I can't wait to begin this journey with you! Are you ready?
