A Little About Me...
I was born in Minnesota, moved to New Jersey when I was a baby, and have been in Arizona since 5th grade. I attended Redbird Elementary, Powell Jr. High, Hendrix Jr. High, and I graduated from Dobson High School. I went to Northern Arizona University, where I earned my Bachelor's degree in Elementary and Special Education. I was lucky enough to do my student teaching with the Department of Defense Dependents Schools in Belgium, where I spent all my weekends traveling to different countries. (I LOVED being able to say, "I'm going to Paris for the weekend.") I then came back to the States and began working on my Master's degree in Educational Technology, which I finished in 2004.
When I'm not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family. We enjoy hiking, traveling, reading, playing on the computer, traveling, live concerts, puzzles (any kind), and traveling. Oh, have I mentioned traveling? Most of my summers are spent "on the road." We love going to California beaches, exploring here in Arizona, and road trips around the country. One year, we drove up the west coast to Seattle, stopping in San Francisco, Astoria, Oregon (where The Goonies was filmed), and spent 3 days on a house boat on Lake Union. We've also driven up through Utah and Idaho to spend time with family in Montana and Wyoming. We love visiting national parks along the way--last summer we went to Capitol Reef in Utah, Glacier in Montana, and Yellowstone and Grand Teton in Wyoming. As 4th graders this year, I'll give you a FREE PASS for the national parks for your family. Hopefully, you can enjoy them as much as I do!
Although I sometimes wish summer would last forever, I absolutely LOVE my job! The 2018 - 2019 school year will be my 14th year at Zaharis, and my 19th year as a teacher. I've taught elementary and junior high special ed / resource, junior high language arts and social studies, and I am so excited to be teaching 4th grade again this year! I can't wait to share with my classroom community all of the exciting things 4th graders at Zaharis get to experience--learning about Arizona, the county float parade, experimenting with magnets and circuits, reading, writing and math workshop, and of course, the Grand Canyon trip! This is going to be the best year ever!
