Welcome to the wonderful world of first grade!
My name is Morgan Anderson and this is my fourth year teaching. I'm thrilled to be apart of the Zaharis family teaching first grade! I can't wait to embark on the journeys that are in store for the upcoming school year.
I was born in a tiny mountain town in Colorado, but I spent the majority of my adolescence in Tucson, Arizona, where I graduated from high school and began attending community college. Although numerous friends encouraged me to attend the U of A, it never felt quite right. After touring ASU's campus a few times, I fell in love and knew that it was the school for me. So in the summer of 2008, I decided to pack up and leave home for Tempe, Arizona to further my education. I had known I wanted to be a teacher ever since I was a little girl, so deciding to major in Elementary Education was an easy decision. I interned in Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade classrooms before I was chosen as a student teacher at Zaharis under the guidance of Julie Reichert in first grade. I instantly fell in love with the culture of the school and the love of learning that is embedded deep within each student. I knew quickly that Zaharis would always have a special place in my heart. I graduated with honors in December of 2011 with a BA in Elementary Education from ASU, filled with excitement and anticipation for my future in education.
During the semester in which I student taught, I got engaged to the love of my life. We decided that we wanted a fresh start and to be closer to family, so in January of 2012 we moved across the country to Washington State to start our lives together. During our two and a half year residence in Bellingham, Washington, Scott and I got married on the white sand beaches of Oahu, Hawaii, and we had a beautiful daughter named Avery. She is now 3 years old, and in March of last year, Avery became a big sister to a little brother that we named Casey. Avery has loved being a big sister and Casey absolutely adores her. It's been so fun watching our family blossom.
Although we had high hopes of starting our careers in Washington, Scott and I never truly found our place. I had become a substitute teacher, but my heart was yearning for my own classroom. When I was informed of a last minute first grade position opening up at Zaharis four years ago, I jumped at the opportunity to return to the school I love. With the support and encouragement of a few friends at Zaharis, I luckily got my dream job. We moved across the country AGAIN, and I returned to Arizona right as the school year was starting. My first three years of teaching were incredible, and I've learned a lot about myself as an educator. I'm beyond excited to begin my fourth year of teaching. I know my students and I are going to have an amazing adventure together.
As a teacher, I believe strongly in promoting a community of active learners and compassionate friends. I want my students to feel important and capable of achieving anything, if they put their minds to it. I believe that imagination and creativity are extremely powerful tools, and if the students can learn to use them correctly, they will go far in life. My ultimate goals are to highlight each child's unique strength(s) and provide the support necessary for each child to utilize those strengths to find success in the classroom.
Welcome back, and always remember:
