Reading instruction will focus on four main components: read-alouds, shared reading, independent reading, and book clubs. Read-alouds allow students to enjoy reading as a leisurely activity because everyone - including adults - likes to listen to a good story. We will also read various selections of books as a class and look at the books more closely through lessons, reflections, and discussions. Independent reading allows students an opportunity practice the strategies taught during class. During this time, I will also conference with each student. Book clubs are a great way for students to gather in small groups, converse about the book they are reading together, and make sense of the text.
