Welcome to Room 8 at James K. Zaharis Elementary School! I am thrilled to welcome you and your family to kindergarten, and to the beginning of a wonderful journey at this one-of-a-kind school. We are going to have a lot of fun! A little about me: I have been teaching for a total of 18 years, in several different capacities and in several areas throughout the great state of Arizona. I graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in December of 1999, and spent the next three years teaching second grade in the Deer Valley Unified School District. I returned to school in 2003, at the University of Arizona (go Wildcats!), and earned my Master's degree in Special Education with a specialization in visual impairment in May of 2005. I moved to Flagstaff, Arizona that same summer and worked as a Teacher of Blind and Visually Impaired Students throughout northern Arizona until May of 2012, when I returned to the Phoenix area and continued my special education career with Mesa Public Schools. In the spring of 2014, after working with visually impaired students at Zaharis for two years, I seized the opportunity to join the amazing community here full time, and accepted a kindergarten teaching position with excitement, pride, and gratitude. I have one son, Milo, who will be entering fourth grade at Zaharis this fall, and we both love teaching and learning within these walls! Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns throughout the year - you, as parents, are the single most influential factor in your child's academic success, and working together with you is incredibly important to me.
