Reminder - Resilience in the Pandemic writing contest

The district is co-sponsoring a writing contest to collect stories of resilience from employees and third- to 12th-grade students. Each winner will receive a $200 Amazon gift card and have their essay published in the Arizona RepublicHurry, the deadline is Friday, Feb. 26.

Interested in becoming a teacher?

Are you a classified employee who loves working with children? Mesa Public Schools and Mesa Community College have partnered to offer current district employees a pathway to become a teacher. Watch your district email account this week for a link to complete a brief interest form. The form link will be open through Friday, Feb. 26.

Form 1095-C statements now available

By March 2, 2021, Form 1095-C, the employer-provided health insurance offer and coverage statement, will be mailed to eligible employees' homes. The form is available to download immediately on the benefits online enrollment system.

Visit the benefits website, click on the Benefits Enrollment System button. Log in by entering your district email address and active directory password. Select "Enroll now" then "View tax documents" on the left side of the webpage. You may see more than one statement on your portal. Be sure to download the most recent version listed.

You may find Form 1095-C helpful when filing your tax return, though you are not required to submit the form to the IRS. If you have additional questions about Form 1095-C or your taxes, visit the IRS website. All three medical plans offered by the district meet requirements of minimum essential coverage (MEC), mandated by the individual shared responsibility provision of the Affordable Care Act. COVID-19 testing site at Mesa High

The district has partnered with Paradigm Laboratories to offer COVID-19 tests to employees and their families at a mobile site located behind Mesa High School on the old driver's ed range (corner of 8th Ave and Harris). The tests are free and results are available within 24-48 hours. Testing hours are 10 a.m. to 4:50 p.m. Monday-Saturday. Appointments are required.

Educator discounts

District employees can support Mesa's upcoming Alice Cooper's Solid Rock Teen Center and enjoy a discount on a meal. Get a 10% discount at the Los Sombreros locations in Scottsdale or Mesa by showing this flyer and your district ID.

Summit Academy fourth-grade teacher received the Silver Apple Award from Arizona's Family and appeared in an on-air segment

East Valley Tribune featured the Working Warriors program in their Feb. 14 issue. Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for additional coverage on ABC15 and FOX10.

Last week, FOX10 Phoenix visited Roosevelt Elementary for Random Acts of Kindess Day.

Cue the applause

Angela Shults, a Mesa Academy for Advanced Studies English teacher, received the Arizona's Family Silver Apple Award. The award includes a $1,000 prize. Shults will appear on air Thursday, Feb. 25.

Stevenson Elementary's Shannah Newman has been named the 2021 Advocate of the Year by the Arizona School Counselors Association.
