Reminder: summer work opportunities

The operations team is seeking full-time contract district employees who are interested in working within its shops and departments this summer. The program will run from approximately May 21 until August 2. Hours will be Monday through Friday 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Some shops may vary. Classified employees will be paid their normal hourly rate. Certified employees will be paid the custodian base rate, $12.50 per hour. Community education is hiring part-time program managers and instructional assistants for Summer Xplore. The summer session is June 1-July 28, 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Franklin at Brimhall, Hermosa Vista Elementary, Mesa Center for Success at Jordan and SHARP. If you know any graduating seniors looking for a great summer job to make money and have fun, please encourage them to apply for the instructional assistant position. 

Earn recertification hours while practicing self-care

Log in to Grow before Friday, April 16, to enroll in Yoga, Mindfulness and Meditation. The free four-week virtual workshop is led by a district teacher who is also a certified yoga instructor. Each session (Mondays, 5-7 p.m.) will include lecture and discussion positions that teach why these strategies are beneficial, along with practicing one or more techniques. Participants will have access to curated resources for incorporating practices into their lives and classrooms.

Longfellow Elementary sixth-grade teacher Elaine Veatch was featured on 3TV/azfamily after winning a Silver Apple award.

Cue the applause

Mesa Public Schools has been named a nominee for the 2021 STN Green Bus Summit Fleet Awards. Award winners will be announced April 22.

Congratulations to Red Mountain High biotechnology teacher Katy Gazda. She has won the 2021 Ron Mardigian Bio-Rad Explorer Award from the National Science Teaching Association. Gazda was also named a finalist for the Shell Science Teaching Award.
