I am very excited to be returning to Kino Junior High School! This is my eleventh year with Mesa Public Schools, (14th year overall) and I am looking forward to a great year. It's great to be able to teach in my hometown; I attended Hale Elementary, Stapley Junior High, and Mountain View High School.
I am a proud Sun Devil from Arizona State University, and earned Bachelor's degrees in Instrumental Music Education and Music Theory. I worked on my Master's degree in Music Education while teaching band and general music full time in Coolidge, AZ, and completed the degree in the spring of 2012. Since starting in Mesa, I have also taught band at Edison, Salk, Johnson, and O'Connor Elementary schools.
I am a member of the Arizona Music Educators Association (AMEA), the Arizona Band and Orchestra Director's Association (ABODA), and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). I've presented a few times at the Arizona Music Educators Association Conference on the subjects of contemporary issues in music education, elementary band teaching techniques, and teaching in Title 1 schools. Most recently I co-presented a virtual session on teaching in Title 1 schools for the South Dakota Bandmasters at their 2021 conference.
I spent a lot of my spare time playing bass and contrabass clarinets in the Arizona Wind Symphony from 2013 to 2020. I also spent many years volunteering and working for The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps. I spent six years on staff with the Mountain View Toro Marching Band and am in my third full season on staff with the Millennium High School Tiger Band as their woodwind instructor. I also serve on the ABODA Board of Directors as the Vice President of Elementary and Junior High Band Activities.
