REMOTE LEARNING EXPECTATIONS: The district has provided expectations for students, teachers, parents, and leadership. This will ensure that remote education is a successful and productive learning experience. This is available in both English and Spanish.
ATTENDING CLASS AND TUTORING: Class activities, assignments, and tests will be located in Canvas. Live class meetings (Live WebEx) and tutoring sessions (Extended Learning and Office Hours) will be available on WebEx and will be linked through Canvas to make them easier to locate.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: English 8 is designed to prepare students for high school and college. The focus of the course is to refine reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills through the exploration of a wide variety of genres.
GRADES: Grades will be updated and managed online and available for immediate viewing.
Classwork (assignments that build understanding to achieve mastery): 15%
Assessments (tests, quizzes, presentations, and written assignments that prove mastery): 85%
RETAKES: Retakes are allowed on assignments and tests after the student completes a tutoring session.
TUTORING: I will be available for WebEx tutoring on Wednesdays and during extended learning hours. I will provide a schedule for students to create appointments.
ABOUT THE TEACHER: My husband and I have two grown daughters, two sons-in-law, and three grandchildren. When we aren’t traveling or hanging out in the back yard (especially these days), I enjoy long rides on my motorcycle; it’s a great way to achieve social distancing. I graduated from NAU before starting my teaching career. This will be my 20th year teaching English/Language Arts. I’ve taught using an online platform in the past, but that was a very different situation than the one we are now experiencing. I’m confident that the district has provided us with the resources that we need to be successful. I’m eager to get this year started and meet my newest favorite people - my students.
