Being safe online: Internet Safety
You can have a positive & safe online experience by following some simple guidelines:
- Avoid being online "friends" with strangers. Communicate with people you know and trust in real life.
- Use strict privacy settings on social media websites and any websites where you login and post so only approved "friends" can see what you share.
- Don't share personal information, even if only your online "friends" can see it.
- Profile pictures are usually public so don't use pictures of yourself. Use avatars or other alternate images.
- Be careful to not reveal personal details in your username. If Josh is 12 he shouldn't use the username josh12.
- Don't meet someone in person that you only know online unless you have trusted adults with you.

Check for Understanding:
- Sharing information online can reveal your location to a stranger. What type of information is okay to share, and what should you keep to yourself?
- If you communicate with someone online, how can you be sure that they are really who they say they are?
