Monday Nov 30 - Dec 1 12:00am MPS Asynchronous learning day- don't come to campus - Important update from Superintendent Andi Fourlis Hello Mesa Public Schools community, Thank you for partnering with us in implementing the Safe.Strong. Ready . plan to reopen schools and keep them open. We must continue to work together to prioritize the safety of our students and staff. This includes following recommended mitigation strategies at school and in our community - wearing face coverings, physical distancing to the greatest extent possible, frequent hand washing and staying home if feeling ill. This will be especially important during the Thanksgiving holiday. Monday, November 30, will be an asynchronous, or self-guided, remote learning day for all students . On that day, students will remain home and complete assignments provided by their teachers in Canvas. Teachers will spend the day in professional learning, collaborating with their team and planning lessons for the remainder of the semester. They will not be providing direct instruction. Other employees will work their regular job assignment, receive professional development and support student needs. The purpose of this remote learning day is threefold. Safe - An additional day away from school will decrease the likelihood of school spread of COVID-19 due to social activities related to the Thanksgiving holiday. Our goal is to keep our schools open for five-day modified in-person learning.  Strong - The extra day of planning for teachers will support a strong finish to the first semester. Ready - A strong finish of the first semester will ensure we are ready for the second semester. Here are some additional details about Nov. 30: Attendance will be recorded based on student activity in Canvas. All in-person extracurricular activities are canceled unless the team is in a state-level tournament. Meals will be available for pick up district junior high and high schools. Students do not need to be present. Please see the published schedule . On-site centers will be available at every school for students needing a safe place to complete their remote learning. Your school will communicate how to register. Transportation will not be provided. Xplore will be open before and after school hours on Xplore campuses for students who are registered. EVIT students will be remote or may provide their own transportation to the EVIT campus. We ask that you continue to be safe and strong during the Thanksgiving holiday, and be ready to return to campus on Tuesday, December 1. If you are exposed to COVID-19 or develop symptoms, please get tested ; if you haven’t done so, consider getting a flu shot ; and if your child doesn't feel well, keep them home to protect your family and our schools. Together we will remain Safe.Strong. Ready . Sincerely, Dr. Andi Fourlis Superintendent
