Steps Extracurricular Service (Option B, non-school)

Step 1:  Decide where you would like to volunteer (see list above). Contact the organization to see if they need volunteers.

Step 2:  Complete the Service Learning Application (above). This explains what you are doing to Ms. Chupp. Remember, you must work for a non profit agency.

Step 3.:  Ms. Chupp will review your activity. If approved, Ms. Chupp will email you your time card when it is ready. If you are denied, you will receive an email explaining why. **Remember, in order for your hours to count towards your Seal of Excellence, it must be PRE-APPROVED. 

Step 4:  Serve your community and represent the Campus of Champions! Record your hours, obtain signatures, and hang on to your timecard.  

Step 5:  Reflection: You are required to participate in a Reflection Activity to document your service and turn in your timecard. You'll share your experience with a small group of students (no stress, just sharing).  These will happen in April. Listen for announcements starting in March! Ms. Chupp will also send you an email with directions (be sure to be checking your emails regularly). 

Step 6  If you have done your Reflection and turned in your timecard(s), Ms. Chupp will make sure your hours are recorded on your transcript. All 200 hours must be completed by early April of Senior Year to be considered for the Honor for Excellence in Service Learning (seal on your diploma).

NOTE: All service hours must be preapproved. You may NOT count hours that you served BEFORE filling out the application and receiving the time card from Ms. Chupp. This is a district policy.

You must complete separate time card for each organization you plan to serve. For example, if you are going to volunteer with the Mesa Public Library, the Phoenix Zoo, and United Way, you would need three different applications and time cards.

The only exception to this is if you are serving as part of a group (NHS, Toro Links, your church, etc.).

Option A Service: Classroom Groups or Clubs

  • Option A (Curriculum Based, for Teachers) - Email with the number of time cards you need and the name of your group or club

Senior high students in 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade are involved in a variety of curriculum based and extracurricular service learning. The interests and personalities of the schools, teachers and students determine the projects. The five below are pretty common.

  • Social studies students volunteer in campaign offices.
  • Sports medicine students care for the needs of their school’s teams.
  • English students write, illustrate, and donate original children’s books.
  • School clubs gather donations of items and funds for local non-profits.
  • Students volunteer independently throughout the community
