Spanish III  - WL 23

Difficulty: Average-High 2 Sem.—1 Cr. Prerequisites: Average or above grades in WL 22

Following is a list of themes that we study in Spanish 3: 

Para Empezar - Tu vida diaria We review our daily routines, irregular verbs, stem-changing verbs, and reflexive verbs. Días especiales We review holidays and special days, verbs that conjugate similarly to gustar, possessive adjectives and the preterite past tense.

1 - Días inolvidables Describe and talk about a visit to a national park. Preterite verbs with spelling change and irregular preterite verbs. Brief review of the imperfect. Vocabulary themes: activities, nature, camping, weather, comptetions and more.

2 - ¿Cómo te expresas? Talk about the arts, give opinions about them and talk about how people express themselves. More preterite vs. imperfect, estar + participle (I am/seated). Ser vs. estar. Vocabulary themes: Art forms and genres, materials, describing art, theater vocab, music and dance, acting.

3 - ¿Qué haces para estar en forma? Talk about symptoms and remedies, give advice about nutrition and health, and talk about how you feel. Command forms. Woohoo!! The subjunctive gets introduced here! ☺Vocabulary themes: Symptoms, medicine, more body parts, health behaviors, nutrition and how you feel. 

4  - ¿Cómo te llevas con los demás? Express how you relate to family and friends, dealing with conflict and maintiaining relationships. Subjunctive with emotions, por and para, nostros commands. Possessive pronouns (míos, etc). Vocabulary themes: qualities/attributes, relationship stuff, verbs that have to do with relationships and other expressions.

5 - Trabajo y comunidad Talk about ways of getting a job and the skills necessary for a job. Talk about volunteering. Present perfect review (hemos estudiado) and pluscuamperfecto (like present perfect meets the imperfect). Present perfect of the subjunctive. Adjectives and demonstrative pronouns (this, that, that yonder). Vocabulary themes: Work stuff including qualities, interviews, activities, the community, and other related expressions.

6 - ¿Qué nos treará el futuro? Talk about future careers and professions as well as other plans for the future. Also discuss the impact of science and technology on our lives. The future tense and the "probable" future. The future perfect (like present perfect, but in the future). Complementos directos e indirectos. Vocabulary themes: Professions, lots of verbs, career fields and other general vocabulary


7 - ¿Mito o realidad? Describe what archaeologists do and explain some extraordinary phenomena. Give your opinions about such stuff and also explain contributions of Maya and Aztecs. Present and present perfect of the subject with expressions of doubt. Pero and sino. More subjunctive in adjective clauses. Vocabulary themes: discoveries, myths, legends, and inexplicable phenomena. Describe objects, doubt, the universe and related verbs.


8 - ¿Encuentro entre culturas? Talk about how different cultures interact and Spain pre-1492. Talk about cultures in the Americas after European arrival. The conditional tense (She would like to learn it). Imperfect of the subjunctive. Vocabulary themes: Historical constructions, arrival in the Americas, cultures and related verbs.


9 - Cuidemos nuestra planeta Talk about environmental concerns and solutions at local through global levels. Conjunctions, pronouns relative to que, quien y lo que. Vocabulary themes: Contamination, natural resources, animals, environment and other related vocabulary. (Optional Chapter)
