Bos is an Arizona Presidential Award finalist
Colette Bos of Smith Junior High is in the running for national recognition, prizes.
Dr. Bos, Title I school improvement specialist, is one of two Arizona finalists in the
Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.
The Arizona Department of Education honored her at a State Board of Education meeting this fall. The award is the highest recognition a kindergarten through 12th-grade math or science teacher may receive for outstanding teaching in the United States.

"It was such an honor to be nominated, and I am happy to have been named a finalist," Bos said. "My favorite part of teaching is empowering students. The human brain automatically thinks like a scientist investigates. Science teachers have a unique opportunity to excite students with information and then guide them to discovery."
In late spring or early summer, the National Science Foundation, which administers the program for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, will convene a National Selection Committee.
National winners to receive $10,000 later this year
Winners will travel to Washington, D.C., where they will attend a series of recognition events and professional development opportunities. They will receive a presidential citation, gifts from national program sponsors and $10,000 from NSF.
In addition to honoring individual achievement, the program exemplifies the highest standards of math and science teaching. The program provides teachers an opportunity to build lasting partnerships with colleagues across the nation. This growing network of award-winning teachers serves as a vital resource for improving science, technology, engineering and math education.
