Title I - Private Schools

Equitable Services for Private School Students

ESEA Section 1117: Participation of Children in Private Schools

By federal law, the Elementary & Secondary Education Act (ESEA) requires each Local Education Agency (LEA) that receives Title I monies to obligate funds to identify and serve eligible at-risk students who reside within Title I attendance boundaries but choose to attend non-profit, private schools. These services are direct assistance to the eligible students only and equitable to the services provided to at-risk public school students.

Equitable Services with MPS Timeline

In late January/early February, Notice of Intent to Participate letters are sent to identified private schools, and our initial Consultation for the upcoming school year occurs. Using 100th Day attendance data and qualifying criteria, schools provide a list of eligible students. The deadline for private schools to consult and submit required documentation for participation in Equitable Services is April 1st of each year.

Please contact MPS Title I Department for more information regarding services for the upcoming school year.
