I have been working with children since 1992 in various mental health and academic capacities and settings. I earned my MA in Counseling from the University of New Mexico in 1998, and this led to my position as a Mental Health Counselor working with children and families. I then became a School Counselor in 2000 and upheld this position in New Mexico until my wife and I moved to Arizona in 2004.
I have been a proud member of Mesa Public Schools since 2004. I upheld Counselor positions at Lowell Elementary School, and Smith Jr. High School, and am now the Prevention Counselor for the district.
My overall goals as Prevention Counselor are to: (1) assist with improving educational services for youth who are negelected, delinquent or at-risk of not completing school so that they have the opportunity to meet the same challenging State academic content and student achievement standards as expected for all students; (2) provide services to students to enable successful transition from institutionalized or current setting to further schooling and/or employment; and (3) act to help prevent students from dropping out of school as well as providing a support system for continued education for youth who have dropped out of school or are returning from correctional facilities or institutions.
