Pomeroy's Garden is Flourishing!
Our Pomeroy Community Gardens are looking amazing! Thank you to so many of our Pomeroy parents and a HUGE thank you to Ms. Kate Kostovski, one of our Upper Elementary Montessori teachers. Ms Kate began working on the gardens last year and truly put time, energy and personal care into making sure both gardens would be established as viable areas at Pomeroy. Recently, Ms. Kate reached out to our Montessori parents and has created a Pomeroy Garden Club! Thanks to Ms. Kate, Mrs. Lisa McLaughlin, Mr. and Mrs. David and Mari Barfuss, Mr. and Mrs. Brian and Miranda Border and Mrs. Rachel Santos for their grassroots effort in taking charge and inspiring so many people to assist in turning around our Pomeroy Community Garden. This garden will serve to teach, inspire, and cultivate learning in our school and our students. Ms. Kate and this small parent-teacher group are excellent examples of how one teacher's dream can come to fruition because of her passion! Ms. Kate and her team have provided all students and staff at Pomeroy the opportunity to visit, work in, and learn about gardening. We are looking forward to even more learning opportunities to come. Pomeroy was already an amazing school. The addition of the garden has given us the opportunity to see what can be done when the community and school work together!
This past Friday over 300 plants were donated by the Pomeroy community. With the help of students, staff, and parent volunteers, all plants were planted in our garden! We are looking forward to watching them grow throughout the winter. What an amazing accomplishment to kick this new garden program off! Again, thank you to Ms. Kate for organizing the Garden Club and spending evenings and weekends getting the garden ready and planted! A special shout out to volunteer Mrs. Lisa McLaughlin for all the time and hours she has spent with the students and in the garden. A parent said it best, “...there are good things sprouting up here at Pomeroy!”
Please join me in thanking Ms. Kate and all the teachers, parents, and students that have helped to develop the garden this year.
