Parents of students who are not old enough to enter Kindergarten (5 by Sept.1)
can have their child tested for readiness. Please register for testing in the
office and the testing will be done around the end of May.
We would like to extend a warm and hearty welcome to everyone. We are anxiously looking forward to working with you and your child this year. We will strive to provide a unique and rewarding first year experience at Pomeroy. As teachers of Elementary Education, specializing in Early Childhood, we are also aware of your feelings of excitement and concerns as parents. Please know that we care about your child as an individual and we will do our best to meet his or her needs and provide rewarding experiences.
Kindergarten hours are 7:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (except on WEDNESDAYS, dismissal is at 12:00 p.m.). Students who need to eat breakfast will arrive at 7:05 a.m. and enter through the office to be taken to breakfast. All other students can arrive at 7:15 a.m. and go directly to the Kindergarten playground. Students will enter the building with their teachers before the last bell. The last bell means we should be in class preparing for our day.
Kindergarten does NOT have a Supply List. All supplies are provided. However, if you would like to donate items to the classroom please consider the following:
Expo Dry Erase Markers without erasers
Crayola Crayons - 24 count
White copy paper
Colored copy paper
A backpack is a good way for your child to get things to and from school, it should be able to hold a 9 1/2 x 11 folder and NOT HAVE WHEELS.
We will celebrate and acknowledge each child's birthday by singing "Happy Birthday", giving your child a birthday crown, etc. If you wish to provide a special treat for your child's birthday, please notify your child's teacher ahead of time so you will know how many classmates to plan for. ALL TREATS MUST BE STORE BOUGHT.
Kindergartners at Pomeroy have P.E., Music, and Media Center (library). For P.E. class your child should wear comfortable clothing and shoes for running and kicking. NO sandals or flip-flops on P.E. days.
VISITORS AND PARENT VOLUNTEERS
Pomeroy has an open door policy on parents visiting our classrooms. Please be sure to sign in at the office before coming into the classroom. THIS IS A DISTRICT REGULATION.
We will be asking parent volunteers to help in our classrooms. This can be a unique experience for you as a parent. If you are interested in helping, please talk to your child's teacher.
Various notes, newsletters, announcements and reminders will be coming home with your child throughout the year. Please go through your child's papers DAILY so that you do not miss anything.
