Biography

Hello!  My name is Carmen Sorce, and I'm thrilled to start the 2020-2021 school year working and learning with 6th grade, Porter students, many of whom I know well. I grew up in Romania and immigrated to America when I was seventeen. Although I spent the last , but spent the last 36 years in the Unites States, I take frequent trips to Europe to visit family. Over the years life and work has taken me to many places; Philadelphia, Phoenix, Jacksonville, Charlotte, New York, Boston, and most recent Gilbert. I am proud to call so many wonderful American towns, MY HOME. I always felt welcomed and appreciated.

In 2012, I graduated from Arizona State University with the degree in Elementary Education. This event marked a new career, and a life long dream to contribute to my community. For years I dreamed of working with students in the process of setting goals, supporting each student of reaching their goals, and reaching academic success.

Porter has been my home for the last 8 years, in which time I taught 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade and provided support and resources to students with special needs. The classroom is my favorite place in the world, although I venture far and wide in search of cultural experiences.

During time, away from school I enjoy restoring old spaces (but not before I knock down a few walls), reading (mostly nonfiction), traveling (anywhere and everywhere) and collecting pottery (new and old).

I look forward to a happy and productive 2021-2022 school year.
