Hello and welcome to Red Mountain Physical Education. The goal of our department is to prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century and to help achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
My name is Steven Selby and I am proud to continue to be part of the Red Mountain community & staff this year! This is my seventh year as a Mountain Lion and I couldn't be happier to continue my career as a teacher as a Mountain Lion. I'm a Mesa kid, born and raised, and I felt it would be nice to help prepare children for the future while also giving back to the Mesa district that has already given me so much.
I graduated from Arizona State University with an B.A. degree in Secondary Education and an emphasis on Physical Education, but I also have a small background in Mathematics and General Science. I was taught, and firmly believe in, the Pangrazi method of physical education; a method that promotes daily physical activity and an emphasis on process over product.
This will be my fifth year teaching Modified PE and my seventh year teaching PE Activities. In 2016 I was awarded a Outstanding Teacher of the Year by Student Services, my proudest achievement to date! This class will be co-taught by Spencer Jackson and myself, as well as the district APE specialist, Connie Monk, once a week this year as well.
Cross country and track have long been personal passions of mine. I joined the cross country and track teams during my freshman year at a junior high and continued running for Kyle Sawyer at Mountain View High School until the time of my graduation. Not surprisingly, I'm now the head boys cross country coach as well as the head of long distance track for both boys & girls at Red Mountain. One of my goals is to make Red Mountain a perennial powerhouse in both of these fields. In my coaching endeavors I have been an assistant at Mountain View High School for 3 seasons, I was the head coach at Gilbert High School for 7 seasons, and I've been proud to call myself a Mountain Lion since 2013!
If you have any questions regarding the PE Activities class please check my webpage, syllabus, policies and procedures document, or PE webpage. If you have any questions regarding Modified PE please contact me via email.
In closing, I am here to help the students and athletes of Red Mountain in any way that I can. So please, if you find that you are in need of assistance or would like to join our cross country team, contact me via email or phone. Also, if you find that you need help accessing your student email, MPS Portal, or any other technology issue here is a helpful link.
