Hello Stapley Community! I am Lora Proia and very excited to be working and learning in such a fantastic, supportive, caring community and school, as a school counselor. This year is different and we are faced with difficult times right now but I believe it will be a good year, and we will get through this together. Whether you are a parent, student, or staff I want you to know that I am here to help, please reach out to me.
I am new to Arizona and still learning my way around. Originally from St. Charles, Illinois, I moved to Arizona in July. I bring years of experience to the Mesa School District which includes working 12 years as a middle school science teacher, 6 years as a high school counselor, and 4 years working as a License Professional Counselor part-time. I have worked with adolescence, adults, children, and families in a variety of settings covering an array of topics including college/career planning, academics, coping strategies, stress management, anxiety, depression, OCD, grief management, etc.
I am a proud mother of two adults and 1 chocolate Labrador. My daughter graduated from Ohio State University in May with a degree in Finance, my son attends Illinois State University majoring in business, and my dog is lounging in the house trying to adjust to the Arizona climate. I understand the struggles and the joys of parenting, especially during the pandemic and the challenges inherent in working remotely and helping your child learn from home.
In my spare time I enjoy doing many things: hiking, kayaking, traveling, photography, volunteer work, crafts, spending time with family and friends etc. I look forward to getting to know Arizona better through exploration so if you have any suggestions on what is a must see, please let me know.
I look forward to working together in the Mesa School District community to support the academic, social emotional, college/career, as well as celebrating together the successes of our students.
