How Much Physical Activity do Adults Need?

Physical activity is anything that gets your body moving. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, you need to do two types of physical activity each week to improve your health–aerobic and muscle-strengthening.

Aerobic Activity 2 hours and 30 minutes of moderate activity (i.e. brisk walking) every week  or 1 hour and 15 minutes of vigorous activity (i.e. jogging or running) every week.
Muscle Strengthening 2 or more days a week that work all major muscle groups (legs, hips, back, abdomen, chest,  shoulders, and arms).

Try Just 10 Minutes at a Time!!!

2 hours and 30 minutes averages out to 30 minutes a day, 5 days of the week and can seem overwhelming to some.  Try breaking this up into 3-10 minute chunks during the day.  A brisk 10 minute walk 3 times a day, 5 days a week will give you a total of 2 hours and 30 minutes a week.
