Westwood is the only school in Arizona's largest school district to be authorized to offer the the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program (DP). Created in 1968, The IBDP offers a demanding two-year curriculum of pre-university studies that incorporates the best elements of schools from around the world. It is designed for highly-motivated high school students in their junior and senior years. The programme has earned a reputation for rigorous assessment, giving IB diploma holders access to the world's leading universities.
Westwood is also excited to be one of only two schools in the state of Arizona to be authorized to offer the IB Career-related Program (CP). The CP, created in 2012, is a flexible college prep pathway for juniors and seniors that focuses on a student's strengths and interests. Because education is not a one size fits all mold, the career-related program allows students to tailor their classes based on their needs and interests, while also exploring a career pathway to prepare them for post secondary education and career.
The International Baccalaureate (IB), the parent organization for the DP and CP programs, is a recognized leader in the field of international education, encouraging students to be active learners, well-rounded individuals, and engaged world citizens.
IB currently works with over 3,000 schools in 134 countries to develop and offer three challenging programs to over 700,000 students aged 3 to 19 years. Each program includes a curriculum and pedagogy, student assessment appropriate to the age range, professional development for teachers and a process of school authorization and evaluation.
Schools that have been authorized by IB to offer one or more of its programs are known as "IB World Schools". Authorization to become an IB World School is an intensive process that typically takes two or more years and includes site visits by an IB team. All IB authorized schools must go through a regular evaluation process to ensure that they continue to offer quality instruction at high levels to all students.
We are proud to be an IB World School, and excited to offer students a more academically rigorous program that will help them transition into a successful university experience. Please contact our IB Office at (480) 472-4413 or firstname.lastname@example.org with questions you may have about our program.
