At every board meeting during the school year, Mesa Public Schools recognizes a Spotlight School. The Spotlight School at the May 13 meeting was Mountain View High School. Below is a video about the school and Principal Dr. Mike Oliver's remarks on each honoree.

Spotlight Classified Staff Members - Landon Wrather and Katherine Thrailkill
What does it take to create meaningful change in the world? It takes passionately dedicated educators like Landon Wrather and Katherine Thrailkill. These visionary teachers piloted the district’s first Changemakers course—now the core of our academy curriculum—empowering students to think critically, communicate effectively, and drive community change. In this class, students study the qualities that define a changemaker mindset, the rule of effective communication in mobilizing action, and the importance of critical thinking in making progress. Through close reading and research, students identify opportunities for change in their communities, tying their areas of interest to broader global objectives outlined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Beyond their work with Changemakers, Landon and Katherine also lead other exceptional, award-winning student groups. Landon serves as the Yearbook Advisor, guiding a talented staff that produces beautifully designed and brilliantly written publications each year. Last year’s book earned both the prestigious Gold Crown and Pacemaker awards, placing it among the top 16 yearbooks in the nation. Katherine, a James Madison Fellow, leads Mountain View’s state champion Model UN team, bringing global awareness and diplomacy into the classroom. This year, the team earned Best Large Delegation at ASU’s SunMUN conference, and traveled to Greece to represent Mountain View on an international stage.

A proud Toro herself, Cory graduated from Mountain View in 1986 and went on to spend 27 years as an English teacher at Stapley Junior High. Her dedication to Mesa Public Schools runs deep—not only is she an alumna, but all three of her daughters are Mountain View graduates as well.
