Every month during the 2025-2026 school year, Mesa Public Schools will recognize a Spotlight School. The Spotlight School at the February 26th meeting was Brinton Elementary School. Below is a video about the school and Principal Doreen Brindley’s remarks on each Spotlight honoree.

Jennifer Pena-Certified Staff Spotlight

Mrs. Jennifer Peña shines as one of Brinton Elementary’s most cherished educators. From the moment students walk through her door, they are greeted with a warm smile, a comforting hug, and the reassurance that they are valued. She creates a classroom environment that feels like a second home—inviting, joyful, and rooted in kindness. Every child is a “friend” in her room, and she nurtures that sense of belonging with intention and heart.

An outstanding educator, Mrs. Peña holds high expectations for both learning and kindness. She knows each of her students by name, strength, and need, and she skillfully tailors her instruction to help every child grow. Her passion for kindergarten is unmistakable—she advocates fiercely for the needs of her students and her grade level, ensuring they have the support, resources, and opportunities they deserve.

Mrs. Peña is consistently kind, helpful, and collaborative. She mentors new teachers with patience and encouragement, offering guidance that reflects her deep professionalism and her belief in lifting others up. As a teammate, she is steady, supportive, and often the one who holds the team together through change. Her leadership extends beyond the classroom as she helps run the Brinton Drama Club, bringing creativity and confidence-building experiences to students across the school.

Her commitment to professional learning is evident in the way she applies new strategies and insights directly to her instruction. She is always professional, always caring, and always willing to go above and beyond for her students. It’s no surprise that her students adore her—they feel safe, loved, and part of a true classroom family.

Ann Payne-Classified Staff Spotlight

Brinton Elementary is incredibly fortunate to have Mrs. Ann Payne as part of our school family. Ann greets every student and staff member with a warm smile and a consistently positive attitude that brightens even the busiest days. Her presence is steady, uplifting, and deeply appreciated by everyone who has the privilege of working with her.

Ann supports students not only academically but also socially and emotionally. She has a natural ability to connect with children, making them feel safe, encouraged, and capable. Students love working with her, and it’s easy to see why—she is patient, compassionate, and always focused on helping them grow. Teachers often joke that they “fight over” who gets Ann in their classrooms because her support is so impactful.

A true leader in her role, Ann has taken on the management of NSGRA assessments and FastBridge with remarkable organization and efficiency. She ensures schedules run smoothly, communicates clearly, and keeps the entire process on track. Her reliability and dependability make her someone the whole school counts on, and she consistently rises to the occasion.

Ann is quick to learn new skills and strategies that enhance student learning, and she applies them with confidence and care. She is flexible, always willing to step in wherever needed, and continually goes above and beyond to support the school, staff, and students. Her sweet nature, collaborative spirit, and unwavering professionalism make her an invaluable member of the Brinton community.

Brooklyn Davis-Student Spotlight

Brinton Elementary is proud to shine the spotlight on Brooklyn Davis, an exceptional 6th grade student who has been part of the Brinton family since Kindergarten. Over the years, Brooklyn has grown into a remarkable leader—one who leads with kindness, integrity, and a genuine desire to make her school a better place.

Brooklyn is known for her positive attitude, her warm smile, and her friendly “hello” to everyone she meets. She is a hard worker with strong academics, always prepared, organized, and ready to give her best. Her teachers consistently praise her for her reliability and her ability to stay focused and motivated. Brooklyn’s academic performance is truly superior, but what makes her stand out even more is her character.

A natural leader, Brooklyn serves as a 6th grade representative on the Brinton Student Council, where she brings thoughtful ideas, participates actively, and helps ensure all voices are heard. She is inclusive by nature and always makes sure every student feels involved and valued. Her peers look up to her because she leads with kindness and respect.

Brooklyn is also a dedicated peer mentor and helper, someone classmates know they can count on. She is sweet, supportive, and a good friend to all. Whether she’s assisting a classmate, encouraging someone who needs a boost, or stepping in to help a teacher, Brooklyn does it with grace and sincerity.

Her involvement at Brinton is truly impressive. Brooklyn participates in Student Council, Running Club, Drama Club, Choir, and After School Sports—a testament to her enthusiasm, commitment, and school spirit. She brings energy and positivity to every activity she joins, making her a valued member of each group.
