Every month during the 2025-2026 school year, Mesa Public Schools will recognize a Spotlight School. The Spotlight School at the April 23rd meeting was Webster Elementary School. Below is a video about the school and Principal Dr. Christopher Gilmore's remarks on each Spotlight honoree.
Giordan Hayes - Student Spotlight
Giordan (Gio) Hayes is the embodiment of a true go-getter—someone who rises above every obstacle with determination and purpose. Ranked 37th out of 755 students GPA in his graduating class with a 4.5 College Core GPA. Gio has consistently demonstrated academic excellence, particularly through his success in the rigorous IB CP program.
This year alone, he completed two impactful internships through Varsity Media and Advanced
Professional Studies, where he distinguished himself by going beyond expectations. No matter
the task, Gio approaches every opportunity with unmatched work ethic, initiative, and
professionalism, always pushing himself one step further.
In addition to his academic and professional pursuits, Gio is an active leader and contributor
within his school community. He represents Westwood High through DECA, serves in the
FAFSA Peer Coach Program, and has been recognized as a Woods Scholar, honors that reflect
both his leadership and commitment to service.
Gio’s relentless pursuit of excellence has earned him the opportunity to continue his academic
journey at the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. There is no doubt that he will continue to make a lasting impact wherever his path leads.
Darra Bray - Classified Spotlight
The list could go on and on when it comes to all the incredible things Darra Bray has done. A Westwood graduate herself (Class of 2002), she truly never left—spending more than 20 years dedicated to this school as our Auditorium Manager, consistently going above and beyond in every way.
From managing rentals throughout the year to overseeing the countless productions, concerts, assemblies, and events that take place in our space, Darra is the backbone of it all. She also plays a vital role in our CTE Stagecraft program, sharing her knowledge and passion for technical theatre with students in a way that creates lasting, meaningful connections—whether in the classroom, backstage, on stage, or in the booth.
Her impact is seen and felt everywhere. From teaching students how to safely use tools and equipment, to designing and programming lighting, to helping bring over 40 mainstage sets to life—there’s truly no limit to what she gives to this program.
And while she’s never one to seek recognition or the spotlight, she is more than deserving of it. As a colleague, a positive force, and a true friend—thank you, Darra, for everything you do for our school, our auditorium, the legacy of Westwood Theatre Company, and every student and staff member lucky enough to work with you.
