Mesa Public Schools community members will have two opportunities in September to hear from candidates seeking election to the district’s Governing Board.

Four candidates are running for two open seats on the Mesa Public Schools Governing Board: Josh Chilton, Jennifer Echols, Jason Smithson and incumbent Governing Board member Rachel Walden.

Two community organizations will host candidate forums ahead of the Nov. 3 general election:

The forums will provide community members with an opportunity to learn more about the candidates and hear their perspectives on issues related to Mesa Public Schools and public education.

The Mesa Public Schools Governing Board is the elected body responsible for governing the district. Board members establish district policies, approve the annual budget, make decisions regarding district resources and oversee the superintendent. Governing Board members are elected by district voters and serve four-year terms.
